I previously wrote a blog post about why we need to stop listening to prosperity gurus when it comes to finances.
Well I wanted to revisit that subject and go a little deeper.
You see, where you get your financial advice from matters. And generally speaking, most of the advice we get comes from our parents.
And while I love my parents, they didn’t know much about money.
My father was very irresponsible and would spend as soon as the money hit his hands. My mother would always say money burns a whole in his pocket.
My mother on the other hand, she knew how to save. She was very organized and always knew exactly what she had.
But even still, they didn’t know how to make money other than getting another job.
And I don’t say that in a disrespectful way.
I am very grateful for the middle class lifestyle they provided.
However, when it comes to getting rich, I can’t listen to their advice.
Why?
Because they never got rich.
So the moral of the story is, watch who you are getting financial advice from.
If your goal isn’t to work until you are 72 and then retire, then don’t list to anyone who is preaching that message.
Find people who are living the life you want to live, and listen to their advice.
